Late 19th/Early 20th Century violin labelled The Maidstone. Maidstones were produced in large quantities for the UK student market. They were mostly made in Germany, and are very robust and reliable instruments. This one has a lightly flamed two-piece back and the usual reddish-brown varnish. The sound is lovely - loud and bright and clean. Very responsive and easy to play.
Condition: Usual minor knocks and dings for a violin of this age, but no cracks or repairs. There is a fault in the ebony fingerboard, which shows a patch of paler wood and a tiny knot, but it is cosmetic only and has no effect on the playability.
Set up with ebony pegs, Tonica strings and Wittner tailpiece.
