429 Micael Deconet
Mirecourt violin, probably late nineteenth century, labelled Micael Deconet Fecit Venetiis etc. The front is constructed with spruce of very irregular grain, mismatched. The back is two-piece, lightly flamed. Spirit varnish of a muddy brown colour. On paper not a lot to recommend it, but what it lacks in elegance it makes up for in character. This is a cracking fiddle, clear-voiced and easy to play, warm and slightly wistful in tone. Someone will fall in love with it soon, I predict...
Condition: A few dings and scratches but no cracks, repairs or other issues.
Set-up: New rosewood pegs, new soundpost and Aubert bridge, new Tonica strings and Wittner tailpiece.
