469 French Strad copy
Early 20th century Mirecourt violin, labelled modele d'apres Antonius Stradivarius etc. Two-piece back of light flame, top of medium-grain spruce, nice gold-brown varnish. Mid-range workshop instrument, bearing some signs of hurried production, but having a very strong sound, deep and growly on the lower strings, clear and bell-like on the higher ones. A really good session fiddle which will warm up even more with regular playing.
Condition: A few fibres missing inside the pegbox, done at the time of making. Hasn't caused a problem throughout its life to date and is unlikely to do so now. Otherwise just the dings and scrapes to be expected.
Set-up: Original rosewood pegs, new soundpost and Aubert bridge, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings.
Price, including a new case and bow: €900
