Early to mid 20th Century French Amati copy, labelled Sarasate d'apres Nicolaus Amatus CremonenHieronymi etc. Top end Mirecourt instrument, made with the finest of woods and craftsmanship. Beautiful two-piece back of strongly-flamed maple and top of tight-grained spruce. The varnish is a rich, golden colour and the scroll and rib corners are highlighted in black, a custom generally reserved for the best instruments. It is stamped Sarasate Eleve on the button. The arching is distinctively French. The sound is sweet and velvetty, slightly dark, full of character. A lovely violin, responsive and easy to play.
Condition: Pretty much immaculate. A few tiny dings and scratches, barely noticeable.
Set-up: New rosewood pegs and chinrest, new bridge and soundpost, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings.
