479 French Strad Copy
This instrument has a label which reads Mennegand, Paris, 1867, but I don't think it is that old. In my opinion it's early 20th Century. It's a really beautiful instrument, well made and with good varnish. One-piece back with impressive broad flame, and good spruce top with straight, even grain. The sound is clear and clean with great sustain, nice and growly in the bass and very sweet on the top string. It has been clearly been used a lot in the high positions, because the varnish has been retouched beside the fingerboard, but there are no cracks or repairs and very little in the way of dings or scratches.
Set up with ebony pegs, new bridge and soundpost, Infeld Blue strings and Wittner tailpiece.
