540 Modele Gaspard
Late 19th/early 20th century French violin, labelled Modele Gaspard. A nice Mirecourt instrument, from the plainer end of the range, but not the most basic. The maple back is without flame, but the violin has inlaid purfling and an ebony fingerboard. The sound is rich and warm, with plenty of power and sustain. Will make a wonderful trad fiddle; just raring to go.
Condition: A bit scruffy-looking with various varnish blemishes, and some spalting in the maple, but all these are purely consmetic. There are no cracks, repairs or other issues.
Set-up: New rosewood pegs, new sound post and Aubert bridge, new Helicore strings and Wittner tailpiece.
