Early to mid-twentieth century German strad copy, unlabelled. Extremely well-made instrument, probably from the workshops of Markneukirchen. top woods - spectacular flame on the back, the table of good fine-grained spruce. Nice golden-brown oil varnish. It's easy to play, and the sound is rich and smooth, slightly dark and wistful. In all a very attractive fiddle. Condition: Some wear to the varnish beside the fingerboard; otherwise extremely clean. No cracks, repairs or other issues, and very few scratches. Set-up: New sound post and Aubert bridge. New rosewood pegs and chin rest. New Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings.
