583 Josef Müller
Nineteenth century Bohemian violin, labelled Josef Müller, Schönbach b. Eger i. Bohm. etc. Very nice old hand made fiddle, with thick, dark old varnish, crackled now, over a lighter ground. The front of tight-grained spruce, the back of maple with very light flame. The sound is smooth, sweet, slightly dark, very clear and bell-like at the higher end of the scale. A lovely old fiddle, suitable for any kind of music.
Condition: One short f-hole crack, repaired with internal cleats. The ribs are warped beneath the chin rest - this probably happened shortly after it was made and will not create any problems. Otherwise it's in very good nick for such an old fiddle.
Set-up: New ebony pegs and chin rest, new sound post and Aubert bridge, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings.
Price, including a new case and bow: SOLD
