592 Antique German 3/4
19th Century German child's violin, three quarter size, unlabelled. Typical Klingenthal work, with dark brown varnish over a yellow ground. Attractive instrument, the front of fairly broad grain, the two-piece back of strong, irregular flame. These old instruments are becoming harder to find now. It has a wonderful warm, mature tone, developed over a century of playing. It's hard to say how many children might have learned to play on this, but they have all been careful and it is still a really good, straight fiddle.
Condition: Knocks and dings, inevitably, but no cracks or restorations.
Set-up: Ebony pegs and chinrest, new Tonica strings and Wittner tailpiece.
Price, including a new case and bow: €600
