20th century violin, bearing a Thomas Claxton label, Curatoli. (CLAXTON, Thomas - Worked from 1868, died 1923 Toronto Canada and had a substantial business known as ‘Thos. Claxton Ltd.’). In my opinion this is a European workshop instrument, probably German, originally sold through that company. It's an attractive instrument in every way, being made with good woods and craftsmanship. It has a warm, round sound with plenty of power, nicely responsive and easy to play.
Condition: It has a small table repair, close to the edge, old and stable and guaranteed. Otherwise, just the usual small dings and knocks.
Set-up: New rosewood pegs, new soundpost and Aubert bridge, new Helicore strings and Wittner tailpiece.
Price, including a new case and bow: SOLD
