697 Marquis de l'Air
Early twentieth century French violin, labelled Lutherie Artistique Masspacher and stamped below the button Marquis de l'air d'oiseaux anno. Made with good, tight-grained spruce and lightly-flamed maple. The variegated red/gold varnish is typical of the Marquis de l'air model. The sound is smooth and sweet and it's responsive and easy to play.
Condition: Remarkably clean for its age - hardly a mark on it. The dark lines on the back are made by natural spalting in the wood.
Set up:  New rosewood pegs and boxwood chin rest (changed since it was photographed), new soundpost and Aubert bridge, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings.
Price, including a new case and bow: SOLD
