Early to mid twentieth century German violin. Nice trade instruments, made with close-grained spruce and a maple back, lightly flamed. Attractive light brown colour. The sound is smooth and mellow, even across the strings, very sweet on the E string. This is a nice fiddle for an advancing student.
Condition: There is a dryness crack under the tailpiece. This has been repaired and internally reinforced, and is practically invisible. Some light varnish loss and the usual dings and surface scratches to be found on an instrument of this vintage.
Set-up: New ebony pegs, new bridge and soundpost, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings. Every Wild Goat Fiddle is checked carefully, and fingerboards and top-nuts are adjusted or replaced as necessary.
