Early to mid-twentieth century French violin, labelled Gaspard Duiffo Pruggard. Typical Mirecourt work except for the unusual marquetry inlay on the back, depicting an Islamic town or village gate. Unlike some of these decorated instruments, this one sounds as good as it looks. It is warm, silky-smooth and full of character.
Condition: A bit of varnish wear, including in the middle of the picture, but there are no cracks, repairs or other issues.
Set-up: New rosewood pegs and chin rest, new bridge and sound post, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings. Every Wild Goat Fiddle is checked carefully, and fingerboards and top-nuts are adjusted or replaced as necessary.
