Mid to late 19th Century French violin. Two-piece flamed maple back. Rich red varnish wearing attractively to reveal a yellow ground. There is an imprinted design in each corner, but it's not easy now to see what it is. Floral, perhaps. Rich, majestic tone with a hint of darkness and plenty of power. One for the professional. Condition: Usual edge knocks and dings for a violin of this age. Scratches beneath the bridge (which are purposefully made by some luthiers) have been retouched. Some varnish wear, but overall extremely clean for its age. Set up with new bridge, Obligato strings and Wittner tailpiece. Price. SOLD
