703 Mittenwald

Mittenwald violin, unlabelled, c1860. Typical Mittenwald work, made with good fine-grained spruce and maple of light flame,  interestingly augmented by hand.  Well-crafted instrument, very attractive lion head scroll. Bright, clear, open tone, very even across all the range. Easy to play. All-in-all a lovely fiddle.
Condition: One short f-hole crack, repaired and cleated internally. The lion has lost an eye. Lots of dings and scratches, but no other issues. Condition is remarkable, considering the age.
Set-up: Rosewood pegs and maple bridge from a previous set-up, too good to replace. New sound post, new boxwood chin rest, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings.
