823 German 3/4
Late 19th/early 20th century three quarter sized violin made in Berlin and labelled as such. Exceptionally well-made small instrument, with tight-grained spruce for the top and a very attractive strong flame on the back. It has a rich, round sound with good projection, and very even across its range.
Condition: This one has seen some adventures, by the look of it. It has more than its share of dings and scratches, and has some edgework damage. Someone has attempted to outline the scroll in black and made a dog's dinner of it. It has a table crack below the right f-hole, well repaired and structurally insignificant.
Set-up: New ebony pegs, new bridge and sound post, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings. Every Wild Goat Fiddle is checked carefully, and fingerboards and top-nuts are adjusted or replaced as necessary.
Price, including a new case and bow: €750
