Nice French violin, probably mid-twentieth century, made by the Laberte workshop in Mirecourt and labelled M Couturieux. Mid-range instrument made with good narrow-grained spruce and lightly-flamed maple. Red varnish. The sound is smooth and warm - a very nice fiddle for an advancing student or a keen amateur.
Condition: A few dings and chips to the varnish, but no cracks, repairs or other issues and overall very clean, giving the impression of having been very little played.
Set-up: Original rosewood pegs and new chin rest, new bridge and soundpost, new Wittner tailpiece and Helicore strings. The fingerboard is polished hardwood and not ebony, a feature often found in this type of instrument.
Price, including a new case and bow: €900.
